The Flip Flop Zoo Has Arrived!

Guess what arrived at The New E3 School today? Our Flip-Flop Zoo animals moved from their home at the Virginia Zoo to join us at The New E3 School!

Look at our baby lion, giraffe, hippo and zebra walking into our school…

These animals were created from discarded flip-flops that are found littered on the beaches and waterways of Kenya. Thousands and thousands of flip-flops are washed up onto the East African coast creating an environmental disaster. Not only do the washed up flip-flops spoil the beaches, but they harm marine life who swallow the rubber soles. Learn more about Ocean Sole by clicking here.

Our flip-flop zoo animals will be a great example to our children who attend the school, so that they can learn to be good stewards of their environment. This will be an important part of our curriculum as we teach our children to be part of the pollution solution.

Psst! Are you still looking for the best and brightest gift for that special someone? Stop by the gift shop at the Virginia Zoo and pick up your very own dolphin, shark, turtle or elephant in an array of different sizes and prices!  Each animal has been transformed from discarded flip- flops into masterpieces by a team of artisans in Kenya.  Not only will they LOVE their animal, but you can share this important message about marine conservation--they are the perfect gift for everyone on your list this year!

The Flip-Flop Zoo was a generous gift from one of our donors as part of the $200,000 Challenge Grant from the James M. Cox Foundation. Special thanks to all of our donors who helped us match the $200k dollar for dollar!
